F1 News: Max Verstappen Details Brazilian GP Woes: “Had No Pace”

Max Verstappen has given a gloomy verdict for the Brazilian Grand Prix tomorrow after coming fourth in the sprint race today.

Verstappen was one of the only driver’s to go out on medium tyres today, the other being Nicholas Latifi in the Williams. Today was the first sprint race that Verstappen has not won this season, so it is no surprise he was a downcast in his post race interviews. Speaking to the press, he explained:

“It was just degging, I had no grip from the tyres. Somehow the mediums didn’t last at all, and we had no pace.

“I was just eating the tyres alive, so I don’t know why it was like that. Then with the contact my front wing was a bit damaged, but even with a complete front wing I would have finished fourth.”

Verstappen continued to look ahead to the Grand Prix tomorrow, but did not seem to have much hope for an improved performance which is the first time we have seen the Belgian-Dutch driver being pessimistic this season. He said:

“Even on the soft I think we wouldn’t have had that pace that Mercedes had, so that’s a little bit worrying for tomorrow,”

“We definitely will analyse everything but normally there’s not so much you can do to make it better.”

Although Verstappen finished fourth today, he will be starting P3 on the grid tomorrow as Ferrari driver, Carlos Sainz, will be taking a five place grid penalty, which leaves a Mercedes front row.

The Brazilian Grand Prix is set to be exciting tomorrow with multiple cars looking to take the Interlagos track well. Verstappen has already taken the win for the driver’s championship, however, the race for second and third continues between Sergio Perez and Charles Leclerc with George Russell, who is starting in P1, not too far behind. The Constructor’s championship has also gone to Red Bull but Mercedes and Ferrari are still battling it out for second.
