F1 News: Mick Schumacher’s best option for 2023

Mick Schumacher is running out of potential seats for next season.

Mick Schumacher finds himself in a difficult position in the driver market, yet to agree on a contract to secure his future in Formula 1 for 2023.

There have been several reports indicating Schumacher as a candidate or contender for some of the available seats next season, but the 23-year-old has never been the favourite.

Any information linking him to Alpine has been caveated by the French squad’s focus on Pierre Gasly.

More recently, suggestions that Schumacher could find his way to Alpha Tauri have been dismissed by Helmut Marko (as quoted by motorsport.com), who told Sky Germany that the Haas driver is not being considered.

Williams is – in theory – an option for the young German, but Williams team principal and CEO Jost Capito has already explained that the team is happy with its current prospects.

Ahead of the Belgian GP, the Willaims team principal stated that the Grove-based squad is happy with the drivers currently on its roster (Latifi and Sargeant) and will make its determination accordingly in due course.

This means Mick Schumacher’s most feasible option for 2023 could be Haas F1, the team where the former Formula 2 Champion currently competes.

Guenther Steiner has been open about the American outfit’s decision-making progress, revealing that the team continues to evaluate its options.

To the surprise of some, the likes of Antonio Giovinazzi have become candidates to contest the vacant Haas eat, whilst Daniel Ricciardo might be tempted into spending a season at Haas to restore his reputation and recover from his difficult spell with McLaren.

Regardless, Steiner has said the team is open to keeping Schumacher, who has the opportunity in the VF-22, to show Haas that he deserves a contract extension by performing at a high level.
