F1 News: Nikita Mazepin Lashes Out At Ex-Teammate Mick Schumacher While Admitting He Still Wants F1 Return

Despite Haas dropping their contract with Russian driver Nikita Mazepin after the country invades Ukraine, Mazepin has confirmed that he’s still looking for a seat in F1, all while lashing out at his ex-teammate Mick Schumacher.

Mazepin drove for Haas during pre-season testing at Barcelona after racing for them in 2021. He finished the season with 0 points, but thanks to his father being on the board of the company sponsoring the team, he remained for the start of the 2022 season. But, when Russia invaded Ukraine, Haas dropped its main sponsor Uralkali, and with it, all connections to the Mazepin family.

Haas brought in fan-favourite Kevin Magnussen who had driven for the team between 2017 and 2020, and already he’s collected 15 points so far this season. Mazepin is now looking to pull a Hulkenburg and return, especially after he admitted he is okay with signing the ‘Neutrality and Peace Commitment’ agreement required to race for the FIA.

“Miracles happen,” he told MatchTV, a Russian channel that is owned by Gazprom Media – the media arm of the gas company that the Mazepin family has connections to.

“I will be immediately behind the wheel at the first opportunity.”

He was then asked as to what fans of the sport could accept:

“It’s difficult to say,” he answered.

“Four months ago, I could not imagine that everything would change so much. And now I cannot imagine how everything will be fine in another four months, but I hope so.”

He also admitted that he hadn’t been in contact with Haas since he left:

“Why hasn’t anyone contacted me? I don’t know,” he admitted.

“But if a mechanic or someone I worked closely with was fired, I would send a message on WhatsApp, regardless of my attitude towards him or towards the management.

“It would be easier on the soul, but a fact is a fact.”

Nikita also commented on the relationship between himself and his ex-teammate Mick Schumacher, who hasn’t had the best start to the 2022 year.

“I would probably say that the results speak for themselves,” he noted. “I have nothing more to add.”

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
