F1 News: Stoffel Vandoorne joins Aston Martin as reserve driver

Aston Martin has announced that Stoffel Vandoorne will join the team as a reserve and test driver as the team completes its roster for 2023.

The Belgian driver has recently triumphed in Formula E and is making his return to the F1 paddock with the Silverstone-based Aston Martin team.

Vandoorne has proven a capable driver across a variety of disciplines and will undoubtedly assist Aston Martin in its development for 2023 and beyond.

In a team press release, Vandoorne spoke of his excitement for the project:

“It is incredibly exciting to be stepping into a reserve-driver role in Formula One, and I’m delighted to be doing it with Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant Formula One team.

“I’ve watched with great interest how the team has developed and expanded operationally, and I know how incredibly determined it is to make progress in every area.

“Joining Fernando, who I already knew from my Formula ON career, and Lance, to help them develop and improve next year’s car will be a terrific job, and I’m really looking forward to the challenge – and reward – of working together with the whole organisation at Silverstone.
