F1 News: Toto Wolff Reveals Shocking Information On Mercedes Performance

Toto Wolff, chief of the Mercedes F1 clan, has admitted that the porpoising issues Lewis Hamilton and George Russell is bad. But how bad this is has never been quantified… until now. Wolff has revealed that the vertical force of the porpoising is equal to that of 6G.

Mercedes has been struggling with this all season, apart from maybe the Spanish Grand Prix, and this has meant that the team hasn’t been able to utilise the downforce potential of their W13s. On top of this, Hamilton especially is struggling with the physical toll of this, with fans noticing him being in severe pain after the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

“It’s up to 6G that we are generating in vertical load, so it’s not muscular anymore, it’s the bones,” Wolff told Viaplay about the effects of porpoising.

“The drivers sat together, and all of them, but one, agreed that something needs to be done, but I don’t know what could be done.”

Mercedes is currently sat in third place in the Constructor Standings behind the leading Red Bull and Ferrari. Current only say 38 points behind Ferrari, who suffered a double DNF during the Azerbaijan GP, Mercedes is looking solid and reliable, but Wolff needs more performance:

“The pep talk is first to look at ourselves. We had great reliability, but it lacks performance,” he said.

“The guys up front are just too quick at the moment. I’m sure we can unlock it, and therefore, all the points we get right now can be very valuable at the end.”

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
